My ultimate shopping guide for must-have pregnancy items you can’t live without!
Being pregnant is such an incredible experience. I tried my best to savor every moment, especially with my last pregnancy.
However, it sometimes felt like I would be pregnant forever!
Looking back, I realize that my pregnancies were such a relatively short snippet of time. I mean, my babies aren’t babies anymore (my oldest will be 11 in a just a few weeks and my youngest will soon be 5 – how on earth did that happen?!).
I cherish the times I had with each of my babies kicking around inside me, but it doesn’t mean it was always enjoyable or without any pain and discomfort!
I’ve birthed 5 babies in 6 years (including one set of full-term twins), and trust me, mama – I know firsthand how difficult it can be to grow little humans inside of you.
Throughout each of my pregnancies, there were times when I wasn’t even sure I was going to make it through the day. At night, I would waddle my way to our bedroom and collapse into bed with aching feet and a sore back.
Thankfully, there were some things I found that made pregnant life a bit easier, and I’d love to share them all with you!
If you are pregnant or you know someone who is, then I’m hoping you’ll find my list of must-have pregnancy items helpful!

My Top 12 Must-Have Pregnancy Items:
1. Prenatal Vitamins
Ideally, you would begin taking a quality prenatal vitamin before conceiving, but if you find yourself already pregnant and you’re not on a prenatal yet, don’t worry! Just pick up a bottle of prenatal vitamins and begin taking them right away. Make sure to look for an organic, non-GMO brand that contains methylfolate as opposed to folic acid.
If you’ve never suffered from
morning sickness all day sickness during pregnancy, then consider yourself very lucky! My morning sickness was terrible with each of my pregnancies, but thankfully, it would always subside shortly after entering the second trimester. But those first 12-14 weeks or so? Brutal.
Tummydrops are surprisingly delicious and really work at keeping nausea away. They are made with non-GMO ingredients, are gluten-free, and come in 3 delicious flavors (the Double Ginger Peach is my favorite!).
3. Lemon Essential Oil
Another way to combat nausea during pregnancy is to take a whiff of lemon. Sounds a little crazy, but it works! I learned this in my first pregnancy when another mama told me to cut a piece of lemon, put it in a plastic baggie, and sniff it periodically. She swore it worked, and it totally did!
I had since decided to try diffusing lemon essential oil in subsequent pregnancies, and that also helped a lot. When I went out of the house during my first trimester, I would put a few drops of the essential oil in a portable diffuser inhaler to keep in my purse. It helped tremendously to pull it out and take a little sniff when my stomach was super queasy.
If you don’t like or can’t stomach the smell of lemon, peppermint essential oil works well, too.
I never had any heartburn before becoming pregnant, but boy did I sure get a lot of heartburn during each and every one of my pregnancies! Especially in the third trimester, when my stomach was pushed up into my ribs and every little bite I took sent burning stomach acids into my esophagus. Or when I’d lie down in bed. Can you relate at all, mama?
I found that taking a little swig of apple cider vinegar (while really gross) helped quell the heartburn. But for the 2 a.m. trips to the bathroom — that wasn’t a very convenient option. So I had a bottle of these chewable antacid tablets on my nightstand for quick and easy relief. I also threw a bottle in my purse to take with me when I was out.
5. Magnesium Oil
My first symptom of early pregnancy for me is usually headaches. I seem to get a lot of headaches in the first trimester for some reason. Later in pregnancy, I have trouble sleeping due to restless leg syndrome and occasional leg cramps.
Magnesium oil helps all of these issues for me and I couldn’t go through pregnancy without it! I’ve always kept a bottle of this magnesium oil spray by my bed to rub into my legs before sleeping and it always worked like a charm. I can’t recommend it enough!
6. Maternity Bras
These maternity bras have no underwire, lots of stretch while still being supportive, and convert into a nursing bra with a clasp that’s easy to undo with one hand. I loved using these in my pregnancy and then afterwards to feed my babies once they were here!
7. Maternity Underwear
Some really good quality maternity underwear will be a pregnancy necessity you didn’t even realize you needed!
In my first pregnancy, I tried wearing my regular underwear as long as I could, and finally became so uncomfortable that I caved and bought myself a set of maternity underwear.
What a difference! This underwear is cut low in the front to sit under your bump but still has full rear coverage. They’re soft and stretchy and SO much more comfortable than regular underwear. Plus they come in really cute colors, too!
8. Maternity Tank Tops
When you’re tugging on your shirts in a futile attempt to cover your ever-growing bump, but no matter what you do, your belly insists on peeking out…then you know you’re ready for some maternity tank tops!
These are ruched on the sides and have lots of extra room in the front to give you the coverage you need. I had some in tons of colors and patterns and basically lived in them from the second trimester on!
9. Pregnancy Pillow
This might be my favorite item on this list! I loved, loved, LOVED my pregnancy pillow and couldn’t imagine going through pregnancy without one! When my hips and back started to ache so badly in my first pregnancy and throwing a random pillow between my knees at night wasn’t cutting it anymore, I went and bought this. It turned out to be a game changer for me! I wished I had bought it sooner.
This pregnancy pillow is the exact one I used, and it made sleeping so much better for me! It was comfortable, supported my belly, and also supported my back. It’s definitely a must-have for any pregnant woman.
10. Belly Support Band
A belly support band is exactly what it sounds like — a band you wear to support your growing bump. It’s designed to take some of the pressure of your heavy belly off your back and hips, and it works really well. It helps a whole lot especially in the third trimester. I was very grateful to have my belly support band in each of my pregnancies, and especially grateful for it when I was carrying my twins!
11. Birthing Ball
A birthing ball is a great thing to utilize during pregnancy! Towards the end of my third trimesters, I always liked gently bouncing on my birthing ball while watching TV with my hubby at night. It helped take the weight of my belly off of my back and hips a bit. It’s also beneficial for upcoming labor by loosening the ligaments in the hips and helping the baby to start engage in the pelvis. Not only that, but it’s fun!
12. Belly Butter
The more the skin on my pregnant belly stretched, the more dry and itchy it became. I would apply this belly butter to my bump every night before bed, and it helped tremendously to relieve the itchiness. I especially love this brand because it’s made with 100% natural and organic ingredients that really soothed my dry skin. And it has a nice light scent, too!
